SOMERSET JUNIOR CUP WINNERS - 10/05/11
Freshford United had already written their name in the Trowbridge League record books by becoming the first ever side from the league to reach the final of the Somerset Junior Cup and their name will remain etched in history, as the division one runners up became the first side from the league since the competition started in 1892 to lift the trophy thanks to their 1-0 victory over Taunton & District League outfit Middlezoy Rovers at Street FC’s Tannery ground.
The game may not be one remembered for the football played on the night as both teams failed to get into top gear, but thanks to an excellent all-round battling display from Hughie Fulton’s side who must have been close to running on empty after seven matches in 21 days but their commitment couldn’t be faulted as they came away with an unpredicted but well deserved win against their opponents who may have looked the part but failed to deliver.Middlezoy got the 107th final of the Junior Cup underway and it took a while for both teams to come to terms with the slippery surface which was to play a part in the first real chance of the match on eight minutes, when Freshford’s Mark Williams sliced an attempted clearance out for a corner which was taken by Dan Luce and headed wide by Callum Laird.
Freshford’s first shot on goal came on 12 minutes but Sam Elkins 30 yard effort failed to test Middlezoy keeper Joe Warren. Two minutes later Freshford should have taken the lead but with the goal at his mercy Andy Donald miss kicked from four yards out with just the keeper to beat.Trowbridge League side, Freshford broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, a goal kick from keeper Chris Birleson came off the head of Andrew Donald and fell to Mark Birleson who got to the ball ahead of keeper Warren and rounded him to slot home for 1-0.
Midway through the half Middlezoy picked up the pace of the game but were restricted to shooting from distance with Andy Smith forcing a fine save from keeper Birleson who injured himself in the process but after treatment he was able to carry on. A Darren Warren free kick which around the wall was gathered by Birleson.
As the game went from end to end it was the turn of Freshford to have the better of the play, on 34 minutes Waleed Bakali’s ambitious long range strike flew well wide of the target and a few minutes later keeper Warren did well to hold onto a Richie Bliha cross under pressure from Donald. On 40 minutes Middlezoy’s keeper Warren was well beaten and Andy Donald’s header looked to have doubled Freshford’s lead but from under the bar Craig Robinson cleared the ball to safety. With the first half drawing to a close it was all Freshford as they looked for a second goal to kill Middlezoy off and for a second time they were denied by a goal line clearance when Callum Laird scrambled the ball clear after both Donald and Mark Birleson went close to giving Hughie Fulton’s side a two goal cushion at half time.
The first half had seen Middlezoy impressive in midfield and attack despite creating just a few chances but they were found lacking in defence with Freshford carving out numerous opportunities but only scoring from a defensive error.Freshford kicked off the second half and started to boss the game and in the opening five minutes both Bakali and Donald fluffed further chances to put the villagers two-up. Donald put the ball in the net on 60 minutes but his effort was ruled out for a foul on keeper Warren.
Middlezoy probably had their best spell of the game as they tried in vain to fashion an equaliser but a lot of their chances came from set pieces which came to nothing. Scott Turner tested Birleson from 18 yards and although the keeper spilled his free kick he was able to grab it at the second attempt.
At the other end Freshford were desperate for a second that their efforts deserved but once again they were wasteful when it mattered most with Birleson again guilty of missing a guilt edge chance to wrap the win up on 75 minutes, at the other end Andy Smith tried his look from 20 yards but his like all those before his shot failed hit the target.
For a second time in the game Freshford’s Andy Donald found the target but for a second time he was denied by the linesman’s flag who ruled his 80th minute effort out for offside.
With 10 minutes remaining Middlezoy threw players forward as they battled for an equaliser and on 84 minutes they gave Freshford a massive scare when substitute Brendon Pope’s long range shot looked to have dropped in over keeper Birleson but it also dropped inches over the bar much to the relief of Freshford.
Another goal line clearance from substitute Mark Modley kept Middlezoy in the game but although Middlezoy pressed forward they were unable to find away through a well organised Freshford defence of Jake Gaines, Sam Elkins, Marcus Lewis and Mark Williams who put their bodies on the line to keep their lead intact. Midfield quartet of Simon Kitchen, Elliott Smith and Weleed Bakali were outstanding and Richie Bliha who interrupted a family holiday had a steady game as they went about their business to restrict Middlezoy to picking up the scraps.
Come the final whistle Chris Birleson captain of Freshford United picked up the cup from John Mitchard Managing Director of the competitions sponsors Melhuish & Sanders Building contractors, but for the backroom staff of manager Hughie Fulton, Club Secretary, Ruth Fulton and Ken Birleson who have been with the side since before a number of the team were born it was a proud moment for all of them. The teams vote for man of the match was Waleed Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Simon Kitchen for a shot on the edge of the box which went out for a throw in.
RUNNERS UP POSITION CLAIMED - 07/05/11
Freshford travellled to League winners Foresters for the last game in the league where at least one point was needed to confirm Runners up in the league. With various people away we fielded a different side as planned and got off to a good start and immediatley put the pressure on the hosts and playing against the wind a long ball up field fed Elliott Smith through who fired it past the keeper to give us the lead. It did knock the wind out of Foresters but they soon found their normal game and replied ten minutes later when our midfield got caught on the break to tie the scores. Another long ball left the hosts defence lapsing and a through ball from Waleed Bakali found Jake Gaines to restore our lead at half time. With the wind in our favour for the second half and Foresters losing interest it was mainly all our pressure with the occassional attack from Foresters which was always dangerous. With 5 minutes to go our nerves were settled when a long range shot from Waleed Bakali somehow made its way past the defence and the keeper to roll in the corner of the net. After the game Foresters received their winners medals whilst Freshford also picked up their Runners up medals. The teams vote for man of the match was Waleed Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Stu Arnold for an impressive toe punt for a shot.
Final Score: Foresters 1 - 3 Freshford Utd (HT 1 - 2)
LEAGUE LOST WITH GAME TO GO - 03/05/11
Freshford hosted Broughton Gifford in the league and if we won our last two games we would win the league but with this in mind and a few players not available we didnt get off to the start we wanted and it was very obvious the Broughton wanted to win more than we did. With some slack defending and dubious decisions and tackles we went one goal down after ten minutes and also lost Dave Birleson to injury from 2 late tackles in the space of minutes. However we could not pull ourselves togeather or find a goal and frustration set in which did not help the team. We threw our title chances away and it finished withthe one goal being the decider. Their was no vote for man of the match or Jaffa.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 1 Broughton Gifford (HT 0 - 1)
last minute at trowbridge - 30/04/11
Freshford travelled to Trowbridge Wanderers despite playing at a pitch with no changing rooms or facilities at all on a hot day we had no excuse to start as slow as we did and against the wind and slope we were put under pressure by the hosts and midway through their half they found a way through and took the lead at halftime. The second half should of seen Freshford use their advantage and press the opposition but everyone seemed to be struggling with fitness and the heat and withs ome slack inter passing we soon found ourselves two goals down. It looked like we didnt have it in us to get any goals back but in the last five minutes a goal mouth scramble and Phil Little found Simon Kitchen who slotted home to give us hope of claiming a draw. Trowbridge had the chance to wrap it up with most Freshford players up for a corner a breakaway should of been easy with an empty goal but a long range shot against the wind fortunately went wide and Freshford went back up the other end and another goal mouth scramble turned Simon Kitchen to provider and Rich Bliha found the equalising goal in the last few seconds. The teams vote for man of the match was Chris Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Adam Hyde again for bringing cheap Jaffa Cakes and practising his throw ins before the game and still committing a foul throw in the game.
Final Score: Trowbridge Wanderers 2 - 2 Freshford Utd (HT 1 - 0)
Wonder Goal against westbury - 28/04/11
Freshford Hosted Westbury United Reserves in the League which was a crucial game for both teams who needed to win to stand a chance to still win the league. Both teams got off to a good start and were causing each others defence plenty of work and both sides dealing with the attacks. The second half was much the same with both sides creating chances but neither side able to find the winning goal. The game was destined to be a draw unless someone could produce something special which fortunately Mark Birleson found himself some space with ten minutes to go and from 30 yards out he struck the ball over the keeper and in the top corner to give us the lead and three important points. The teams vote for man of the match was Sam Elkins and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Adam Hyde for a crazy challenge in our baox which was fortunate a penalty was not conceeded.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 0 Westbury Utd Reserves (HT 0 - 0)
better against steeple ashton - 26/04/11
Freshford hosted Steeple Ashton in the league looking for revenge for their loss at Steeple Ashton last week the game got off to another nervous start with points being needed in every game. After twenty minutes a shot from Mark Birleson was handled by the oppositions defender and Rich Bliha made no mistake from the spot to give us the lead then a few minutes later a free kick on the edge of their box was struck by Ryam Mortimer which was missed by all their players and ours but found the bottom corner of the net. Mark Bileson then provided a through ball for Rich Bliha who found teh inside of the post to give us a three goal lead at halftime. The second half saw Steeple Ashton coming back in to the game and Freshford plenty of chances to get another goal and see off the game but many missed chances meant it was a battle to the end but a clean sheet was kept by our defence. The teams vote for man of the match was Mark Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Adam Hyde for a complete misskick and falling over on his attempted shot where he was free at the backpost with just the keeper to beat.

Freshford WIN AT FROME - 23/04/11
Freshford travelled to Frome Town Sports in the league on a glorious day to face the improving bottom of the table team a few changes to the team due to injuries and people away saw us start of a bit nervous. Midway through the half we found our pace and Rich Bliha put through Mark Birleson to give us the lead then Mark Birleson turned provider but set up Elliott Smith to give us a two goal cushion at half time. The second half started very slow as everyone was suffering with the heat and big open pitch but midway through the half Rich Bliha delivered a good corner and Andrew Donald was on the end to give us another. Then Freshford missed a host of chances and switched off towards the end and with a few minutes left conceeded a sloppy goal. The teams vote for man of the match was Waleed Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Chris Birleson for a call for a ball he didnt make.
Final Score: Frome Town Sports 1 - 3 Freshford Utd (HT 0 - 2)
SLOPPY AT STEEPLE ASHTON - 19/04/11
Freshford travelled to Steeple Ashton and quickly discovered they were not there for an easy match with chances being easily missed by us and the hosts doing well on the break. It was Steeple Ashton who took the lead with slack defending from us which let them have an easy goal, obviously frustrated with conceeding we went on the attack straight away and a good goal was made with Jed Osborne putting Rich Bliha through who made no mistake and put us back on level terms. Within 5 minutes the ref gave a dubious handball gainst us when the players hands were down by his side which gave teh hosts the lead again. On the attack again good play and passing Rich Bliha slotted the ball through for Mark Birleson to score the equaliser. The second half saw us start of very relaxed thinking all we had to do was make up the numbers and Steeple Ashton started causing lots of pressure on us and our defence were not dealing with it and frustration set in and the game heated up but it was Ashton who got the next goal withs ome more slack defending from Freshford. We had many chances to get goals back but too many wasted chances and greedy play left us with a loss and it all to do in the last six games. There was no vote for man of the match of Jaffa.
Final Score: Steeple Ashton 3 - 2 Freshford Utd
DOUBLE OVER SEEND IN LEAGUE - 16/04/11
Freshford hosted Seend Utd in the league and the normal battle between the two teams started well with both teams creating chances and putting pressure on which Freshford were more on edge for the first 20 mins. We soon pulled ourself togeather and started playing football and creating good chances then with minutes to go in the first half Rich Bliha whipped in a free kick which found Jed Osborne at the back post to finish and give us the lead at half time. The second half saw both teams still pressing and having good chances but Seend seemed to be the team who looked like they were going to score. But we continued to battle hard and again with a few minutes remaining another free kick was awarded to us and Wel Bakali made no mistake form the edge of the box firing it over the wall and in to give us the 3 points. The teams vote for man of the match was Wel Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was given to Adam Hyde for receiving a short goal kick in the box with no one around to put pressure on him.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 0 Seend Utd (HT 1 - 0)

good battle at blue circle - 12/04/11
Freshford travelled to Blue Circle in the league with a slightly changed team from the weekend and we got off to a good start creating chances and keeping the opposition at bay. The first half was fairly evenly matched and after alot of chances a great ball from Elliott Smith found Rich Bliha with a free header which he sent the keeper the wrong way and gave us the lead. Both teams continued to create chances and we should of scored a few more but couldnt finish and some good defending from us kept them at bay and a good 3 points earned. The teams vote for man of the match was Sam Elkins and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Mark Williams for a clean shot on goal which he put about 30 metres over the bar.
Final Score: Blue Circle 0 - 1 Freshford Utd (HT 0 - 1)
weston beaten to reach final - 09/04/11
Freshford travelled to Weston Super Mare to play high flying Weston St Johns Sportsbar in the semi final of the Somerset Cup. With a fresh side and 7 changes in the starting line up we started the game a little nervously but on a glorious sunny day we soon got down to business when Dan Fowler was on hand to find the first nerve settling goal. Dan was denied his second from a great save from the home sides keeper from a free kick on the edge of the box. Wel Bakali then provided Andrew Donald with a through ball which he slotted away nicely. Then Jed Osborne tok advantage from a missed clearance to give us a three goal advantage at halftime. The second half saw us face a few injury worries with Marcus Lewis being replaced by Andrew Backman who stepped in the defence and held it strong against a long period of pressure from the hosts. Everyone continued to frustrate the home team giving them no time and stealing possesion regularly. With 5 minutes to go Andrew Donald got pulled down in the box to deny him from scoring and Rich Bliha made no mistake from the spot to put us in to the Final. A great display by the whole squad on a very difficult day but the teams vote for man of the match was Waleed Bakali and no one was awarded the 'Jaffa'.
Final Score: Weston St Johns Sportsbar 0 - 4 Freshford Utd (HT 0 - 3)
Bad night at semmington again - 05/04/11
Freshford travelled to Semmington Magpies in the league witha few players out and working James Moody stepped back in goal which was great to see. The game didnt get off to the best start with a debateable penalty being given against us after 20 minutes which the hosts scored. The second half was starting to imorove and some good chances starting to appear but then another defensive error let Semmington in to score their 2nd of the game. We carried on pressing and soon a goal was found with a good ball from Dan Fowler found Phil Little to tap it home. Whilst pushing for the equaliser we got caught on the break and a good goal by Semmington finished off the game. There was no vote for man of the match or 'Jaffa'.
Final Score: Semmington Magpies 3 - 1 Freshford Utd (HT 1 - 0)
BEATEN IN SEMI BY MELKSHAM - 02/04/11
Freshford hosted Melksham Town Reserves in the semi final of the A & B Cup and faced a big task as Melksham are walking the league below us and already in one cup final. With a good side out Freshford were feeling confident and started the game well but it was the visitors who were creating more chances and we soon started making silly mistakes and within 20 minutes were 2 goals down. We picked our heads up and started to create more and get back to our own passing game with things looking better then Chris Birleson twisted his knee and Russell Stritch had to take over in goal for the second half and within 5 minutes Ryan Mortimer then injured his ankle and had to go off as well. With another mistake from defence and a non keeper in goal Melksham gradually progressed on their lead making it five goals to teh better by the end of the game. The teams vote for man of the match was Dave Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Mark Williams for a few mistakes made.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 5 Melksham Town Reserves (HT 0 - 2)
win at worton for another semi - 26/03/11
Freshford travelled to Worton & Cheverell in the quarter final of the A&B Cup with a few injuries and people missing we started the game with Dean Stritch covering in goal. The game got off to a quick start and pressure on the opposition forced a corner which Rich Bliha delivered well to force a mistake and Freshford took the lead from an own goal. The second half saw us start off well and another good delivery from Rich Bliha found Dave Birleson on the box to head home. Our defences slipped a little and Worton pulled a goal back but shortly after Chris Foley was fouled in the box which Rich Bliha fired home the penalty to give us the 2 goal cushion again. We let orton back in the game again with some lapse defending but again took the lead again when a clearance fell stright to Dave Birleson who slotted it home to put us through to the Semi Final. The teams vote for man of the match was Dave Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Phil Little for missing too many easy chances.
Final Score: Worton & Cheverell 2 - 4 Freshford Utd (HT 0 - 1)
beaten by sandford in semi - 19/03/11
Freshford took on FC Sandford at Melksham Towns ground in the Semi Final of the Wiltshire Cup, on a perfect day for it Freshford started the game with the same line up as last week but immediately found themselves on the back foot with constant pressure from the high flying opposition. Midway through the first half Sandford managed to find a break through when a corner was not dealt with and we were the last to react. Freshford looked to pick their game up in the second half but as the first half it seemed as though no one was really putting all the effort in you would expect for a semi final. Midway through the second half a breakaway from Sandford and left with loads of room to run at our defence they manged to find another goal and with us trying to seek a goal we were soon caught out again with a few minutes to go giving Sandford a three goal win. The teams vote for man of the match was Chris Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Mark Williams for starting the second half with a split in his boot so big within minutes he basically had nobottom to his boot and was wandering around in what looked like a flipper.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 3 FC Sandford (HT 0 - 1)

coleord beaten, into semi final - 12/03/11
Freshford travelled to Coleford who play in the mid somerset league with Freshford looking for their second semi final in the county cups. On a windy day on a pitch with a big slope Freshford played against the elements for the first half with the game starting off at a quick pace and physical as expected. Midway through the half the home team took the lead when a soft challenge on Chris Birleson caused him to spill the catch. Freshford continued to press the opposition and a long range shot by Rich Bliha floated in to the top corner beating the stranded keeper and getting us back on level terms. The second half saw Freshford start the better side and pressing the opposition and a good strike on the volley by Neil Birleson forced a good save from the keeper which Phil Little was on hand to tap in the spilled shot. The rest of the second half saw Freshford with most of the pressure and a reasonably easy end to the game with a few chances denied. The teams vote for man of the match was Marcus Lewis and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Chris Birleson for his part in the oppositions goal.
Final Score: Coleford 1 - 2 Freshford Utd (HT 1 - 1)
beaten by deverills - 05/03/11
Freshford hosted The Deverills in the league and were hoping to put any bogey team thoughts to rest and with a good squad out it all lookd possible. The game started its normal physical battle as we always have when the two sides meet. The Deverills looked the side who were creating more chances and Freshford not being able to find the final ball or even the net. The second half carried on much the same with our defence holding well but also making our own mistakes and having to recover from them. With about ten minutes to go some slack marking found The Deverills with an unmarked player at the back post with an easy tap in from a cross. The teams vote for man of the match was Mark Williams and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Andrew Backman for an air kick in the first half letting the striker through on goal.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 1 The Deverills (HT 0 - 0)
POINTS SHARED WITH FORESTERS - 26/02/11
Freshford hosted the Foresters in the league which was a potential 6 pointer with both teams challenging for the title. Freshford started the game well pressuring the opposition and an early goal mouth scramble should of kicked us on to carry on the way started but it only inspired Foresters to raise their game and soon had Freshford on the back foot and a free kick was awarded on the edge of Freshfords box which would of hit the wall had it stayed togeather but a big hole let the ball through to find the net and give the visitors the lead. Freshford got their act together in patches through the second half and eventually Rich Bliha made himself some room on the edge of the box and found the top corner leaving the keeper stranded. Both sides battled to the end but neither could find the winner. The teams vote for man of the match was Rich Bliha and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Ryan Mortimer for taking throw in which went straight up in the air which he then caught and a free kick was given.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 1 Foresters (HT 0 - 1)

race night success again 19/02/11
Freshford hosted their 2nd Race Night but we decided to try and make more money by doing the bar ourselves and using Freshford Village Hall as the venue this year. It was a success again with over 80 people attending the Raffle made £161.30, the betting £703.90 and the bar £599.10 there was also £212.00 in race sponsorship. The total raised was £1552.40 which is not as much extra than we hoped but still an improvement on last year and a good amount to put towards the future club house. Thanks to our sponsors CDP, The Rose & Crown, Fonesolutions, The Barge Inn, Bath & West Fire & Safety, Ken & Wendy Birleson. Also thanks to Chris Birleson for organising it all again and everyone who helped the night run smoothly. Also thanks to the Race Night Staff and Bar Staff for their hard work on the night and for everyone who attended and made the night enjoyable for everyone.
Blue circle beaten in a&b cup - 19/02/11
Freshford hosted Blue Circle in the last 16 of the A&B Cup, the conditions were good apart from having to play with the sun in our eyes for the first half. The game started probably in the favour of Blue Circle creating the most chances and Freshford failing to find the final pass to create any shots on goal. The second half saw Freshford start alot better and within minutes were rewarded with a failed clearance from a corner finding Phil Little at the back post to head home form a few yards. However some slack marking five minutes later let Blue Circle back on level terms. Chris Foley had a goal disallowed with ten minutes to go and Blue Circle seemed to be holding on. Extra time was to be played again and with the prospect of penalties 2 weeks running Freshford continued to raise their game and press the Blue Circle goal in the second half of extra time the efforts of Freshford were rewarded when a Rich Bliha free kick was calmly met on the six yard line by Adam Hyde to give us the lead. The teams vote for man of the match was Chris Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Wel Bakali for starting the game and having to come off injured for the second time this season after 10 minutes.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 1 Blue Circle (0 - 0 HT, 1 - 1 FT)
PENALTIES AGAIN IN SOMERSET CUP - 12/02/11
Freshford travelled to Mells & Vobster who play in the mid Somerset league for the last 16 round. On a very sticky pitch both teams started well and were making the most of the wide pitch stretching their opponents on the break. Freshford broke the deadlock midway through the half when a cleared corner was put back in the box by Rich Bliha who found Andrew Backman still up from the corner free to head in comfortably from six yards out. The second half carried on much the same with both sides making good chances and Mells managed to get one back midway through the half when Freshford couldnt clear the ball from the area and after the third shot was blocked the 4th found the net. Freshford never really seemed to get back in to the game and looked on edge until the end of full time. With Mells looking the better team Freshford stepped up their game in extra time and had a goal disallowed by a very late flag by the oppositions linesman, then within minutes a shocking two footed tackle on Andrew Backman saw the opposition reduced to ten men. Unfortunately we could not make full use of the extra man without any subs left and Andrew only able to hobble around the pitch. Freshford won the toss for penalties and chose to shoot first, good penalties from Phil Little, Ryan Mortimer, and Mark Williams were taken then Chris Birleson was sure he had saved the oppositions third deflecting it on to the bar but it was deemed to of came back down and bounce over the line to his frustration. Chris Foley stepped up and scored the 4th and then justice was prevailed when the Mells 4th taker decided not to re spot the ball after it rolled from where he placed it and ended up scuffing the shot which gently rolled down the middle of the goal for an easy save for Chris Birleson then Rich Bliha made no mistake with the 5th putting us in to the Quarter Final. The teams vote for man of the match was Adam Hyde and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Simon Kitchen who was eager to take a free kick saying he had it and slammed it straight in to the wall.
Final Score: Mells & Vobster 1 - 1 Freshford Utd (0 - 1 HT, 1 - 1 FT, 1 - 1 AET, 3 - 5 Penalties)
in to semi final of wilts cup - 05/02/11
Freshford travelled to Ashton Keynes who play in the Swinon league in the 1/4 final of the Wiltshire Cup. The conditions were nearly gale force winds making it very difficult to play and we had the challenge of dealing with the wind against us in the first half but some solid defending and good play made us look comfortable with it and getting the occasional breakaway causing problems in the opositions box. The first goal came from us when soem good play by Wel Bakali put the ball across for Rich Bliha to find the net giving a big sense of relief to the team dealing with the onslaught from the wind. The second half conditions did not change and with most of the play in the oppositions half struggling to deal with the wind Freshford were soon creating chances. A good ball from Ryan Mortimer put Rich Bliha in behind the defenders which he made no mistake beating the keeper from the edge of the box finding the bottom corner. With Freshford starting to relax too early Ashton Keynes started pressing us back and a goalmouth scramble which should of been dealt with Ashton got a goal back. Five minutes after a comfortable take from the oppositions keeper was somehow dropped after he held it and Wel Bakali was on hand to tap it in to the empty goal to give us the result. The teams vote for man of the match was Wel Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Andrew Backman for a big air kick on the edge of our area putting the striker through on goal.
Final Score: Ashton Keynes 1 - 3 Freshford Utd (0 - 1 HT)
BOUNcED BACK TO BEAT BRADFORD - 22/01/11
Freshford hosted Bradford Utd in the league on a game that was almost postponed due to frost but fortunately the ref used common sense and played the game with both teams happy to brave the conditions. The usual competeitive game with Bradford got off to a quick start with both teams pressing forward but without creating too many chances. The deadlock was broken after 30 mins when Mark Birleson found some space and slotted past the keeper to ease the nerves. The second half carried on in the same way with both teams looking dangerous on the break but struggling to find the finishing touch. With about ten minutes to go Freshford made a quick break from a failed Bradford attack and a half cleared ball found Wel Bakali at hand to fire it in the bottom corner to give us the two goal cushion we had been looking for. The teams vote for man of the match was Wel Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Ryan Mortimer for consistently finding the trees behind the goal.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 0 Bradford Utd (1 - 0 HT)
UNDEFEATED RUN ENDED BY WESTBURY - 15/01/2011
Freshford hosted Westbury United Reserves in the Knockout Cup and with a few changes made to the team on a very windy day we started the game not creating alot but the oppositions keeper having a torrid time with the wind we didnt use it to our advantage. Midway through the half a forced corner was well delivered by Rich Bliha to the front post for Wel Bakali to head home from close range. Westbury always looked dangerous and with the advantage of the wind in the second half they were creating more and more chances. Soon a Westbury corner was whipped in and was forced in between defender and attacker and with our heads slightly down mistakes started to happen and before we knew it we were 4 - 1 down. We managed to find a goal with about ten minutes left when Mark Birleson put through Jed Osborne who beat the advancing keeper however we could not progress on the goal. The teams vote for man of the match was Elliott Smith and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to James Moody for coming out too far for a cross/shot and misjudging the wind but managed to recover just in time.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 4 Westbury Utd Reserves (1 - 0 HT)

just about made last 16 in thriller - 08/01/11
Freshford entertained Westfield Reserves in the Somerset Cup and were glad to have a full side and subs again. We started the game well creating good chances and soon found the break through when Rich Bliha rose to head a cross but it hit Mark Birleson without him really knowing and took it away from the keeper to give us the lead. Soon after a long free kick in to their box found the keeper struggling in the sun and Mark Williams challenged the keeper to make an error for Phil Little to tap it home. On the half hour a cleared corner came to Chris Birleson who hooked it back in to the box and Phil Little hooked it again over the keeper to give us our third of the half. The opposition finally got themselves adjusted and started to come back in the game at the end of the half and carried this in to the second half and after 5 minutes got a goal back. The next twenty minutes were fairly even and Freshford were eager to get the 4th goal and it soon came with Rich Bliha providing Wel Bakali to give us a 3 goal lead again. However with some changes and Westfield throwing everything at us we managed to collapse in the last 15 minutes of the second half and it was 4-4 after full time. With Freshford shaken up and dissapointed they were soon dreading the worst when Westfield scored in the first half of extra time and Freshford had to raise their game and eventually found the equaliser with 5 minutes to go when Ryan Mortimer delivered a brilliant free kick which probably was going in but Chris Birleson made sure of it from a yard out to put the game in to a penalty shoot out. Freshford picked their takers and supported them well and Phil Little scored the first Penalty and James Moody was close to saving the Westfield reply but was unfortunate then it was level scores with the second penalty scored by Ryan Mortimer, Third by Marcus Lewis and Fourth by Andrew Donald then Rich Bliha calmly scored our fifth to make it 5 - 4 and the Westfield captain stepped up only to hit his penalty over the bar to give Freshford the win to go in the next round. The teams vote for man of the match was Phil Little and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Rich Bliha for a shot on a open goal in the first half which he managed to hit the post form inside the box.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 5 - 5 Westfield Reserves (3 - 0 HT, 4 - 4 FT, 5 - 5 AET, 5 - 4 Penalties)
bare 11 TAKE US TO 1/4 FINALS - 11/12/10
Freshford travelled to Swindon with a bare 11, including 2 which were carrying injuries, to play Old Town Wanderers in the Wiltshire Cup. Freshford started the game well with both teams creating chances and within ten minutes Chris Foley was fouled in the box to earn us a penalty which Rich Bliha slotted away to give us the lead and settle nerves. Freshford were starting to dominate but let the hosts back in the game with a miss kick leaving their striker a clear shot on goal. With the game livening up Freshford made a break and Phil Little put Jake Gaines through one on one with the keeper and he guided it past him to take the lead again. Nearing the end of the half a goal mouth scramble and the hosts feeling a foul was committed on their keeper Phil Little found Mark Birleson on his first game back this season who slotted home through the crowd of defenders. This upset the home team and some wild challenges started flying in but the game was still an even battle. Midway through the second half a goal line clearance from Chris Foley fired up the home team sensing a come back then on 70 minutes the Ref pulled up with an injury and there was debate of postponing the match but luckliy common sense prevailed and the referee carried on from the centre spot and teh battle continued with Freshford being pinned down but enjoying the odd counter attack and were soon rewarded when Phil Little broke away and put the ball across the goal to find Chris Foley unmarked and sliding in to tap it in. Then Dudley Philpott making his debut for Freshford put Ryan Mortimer through one on one with the keeper and calmly chipped it over the advancing keeper to finish off the game. From the re start some sloppy marking and a 30 yd strike found the bottom corner for a late consolation for the hosts. The teams vote for man of the match was Dudley Philpott and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Andrew Backman for forgetting the kit and realising when we met in Chippenham meaning he had to return to Trowbridge then meet us at the ground late in Swindon with a shorter warm up than normal.
Final Score: Old Town Wanderers 2 - 5 Freshford Utd (1 - 3 HT)
Lamb hit for 8 in cup - 20/11/10
Freshford hosted The Lamb in the A & B Cup 2nd round and showed the difference between the teams in the leagues by taking an early advantage with Simon Kitchen setting up Ryan Mortimer within ten minutes soon after Phil Little earned his side a penalty which Rich Bliha made no mistake with from the spot. Ryan Mortimer then turned provider and set up Phil Little for his first then Tony Brett set up Phil Little for his second and Freshford four goals up by halftime. The second half saw The Lamb put up a good fight and had teh better start to the second half but soon we got back to scoring ways with Chris Foley setting up Rich Bliha for his second of the game then Rich Bliha turned provider for Phil Littles hat trick. Mark Williams then provided Chris Foley to score the teams 7th of the day then Rich Bliha finished up the game by setting up Phil Little for his 4th ot the game. The teams vote for man of the match was Phil Little and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Ryan Mortimer for various goal scoring oppurtunities missed but mainly for a shot on goal ending up going out for a throw.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 8 - 0 The Lamb (4 - 0 HT)

laSt minute winner in somerset CUP- 13/11/10
Freshford travelled to Chew Magna in the Somerset Cup and started the game well against a very attacking Chew Magna side using their small but wide pitch to their advantage. We continued to create chances and with the game heating up with some tough challenges flying in Ryan Mortimer put a good ball in to find Rich Bliha unmarked at the back post to give us the lead. Chew Magna did not lay down and were rewarded for their efforts and got a goal back at the start of the second half. Freshford upped their game and made a few tactical changes to deal with the oppositions lively forwards. Midway in to the second half a cleared corner came to Mark Williams who suprisingly put it in to the top corner from teh ege of the box with a brilliant shot. Again Chew Magna threw everything back at us and got a free kick on the edge of the box with 5 minutes to go and got the equaliser and extra time was looking like a definate but within the last few minutes a cross from Marcus Lewis resulted in a Chew Magna defender missing his clearance for Simon Kitchen to turn and put it past the keeper to give us the winner and safely through to the next round. The teams vote for man of the match was Mark Williams and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Simon Kitchen again for a shot inside the box he put about 20ft over the bar.
Final Score: Chew Magna 2 - 3 Freshford Utd (0 - 1 HT)
IN SWINDON AGAIN FOR WILTS CUP - 08/11/10
Freshhford have been given another away tie in the 3rd Round of the Wiltshire Junior Cup against The Old Globe Inn who are a Swindon based team. The game will be on Saturday 4th December at 1:45PM.
sCRAPPY WIN IN WILTS CUP - 06/11/10
Freshford travelled to Swindon to play VBA Rangers in the second round of the Wilts Junior Cup with a few players unavailable and only one sub a few changes were needed. We started the game much like we were still playing Semmington and with slack marking and giving the hosts plenty of time on the ball we were two goals down within 3o minutes. We upped our game a bit at the end of the the half and a push on Phil Little in the box gave us a penalty which Rich Bliha made no mistake slotting it away. The second half started better and we were creating chances and Phil Little created some good space on the left and crossed it to Chris Birleson who was unmarked and nearly missed his shot but used his knee to put it in the corner to bring the scores level. With match fitness becoming a problem for some players we were holding on at the end and wondering how we would make it in extra time but Chris Birleson put a ball through to Phil Little who took it round his defender twice then put inside the keepers near post with minutes to go and earning us another Swindon away tie in the next round. The players vote for man of the match was James Moody and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Simon Kitchen again for an easy header when the scores were level which he had all the time to put away he gently placed it right in the keepers arms.
Final Score: VBA Rangers 2 - 3 Freshford Utd (2 - 1 HT)
Semmington beaten in cup - 30/10/10
Freshford travelled to Semmington in the League Knockout Cup and decided to let them still be our bogey team as we started the game seeming very uninterested and not up for the game. With a few changes having to be made throught the game due to injuries we never seemed to settle in to a run of any kind. It wasnt until the middle of the second half when the game started heating up and more chances were being created that a clearance from Adam Hyde set Ryan Mortimer off from the halfway line keeping the defenders just behind him and calmly slotting it past the advancing keeper to give us the lead. Then slack marking and play gave a break to Semmington who managed to find the equaliser with ten minutes left and putting freshford in a very nervous position. Then with five minutes left some good work from Rich Bliha on the left soon found Tony Brett free at the backpost with to head in from 5 yards to give us the win and awarding us a Home tie with Westbury Utd Reserves in the next round. The teams vote for man of the match was given to Adam Hyde and the Jaffa was awarded to Simon Kitchen for a good run in the first half and once passing a few players and space to cross he just hit it straight out for a goal kick.
Final Score : Semminton Magpies 1 - 2 Freshford Utd (0 - 0 HT)
Blue circle beaten to go 2ND - 26/10/10
Freshford Hosted Blue Circle who have had agreat start to the season and are proving to be one of the top teams this season. With a few changes and injuries we started the game very lively and put Blue Circle on the back foot and were soon rewarded with a goal with Rich Bliha setting Up Wel Bakali for his first goal for Freshford in his first eleven debut for us. It wasnt long till an error from Blue Circle in their own box created the chance which Wel Bakali made no hesitation in making it two goals for him and Freshford. The second half found the opposition finding their form and putting up a good fight against the first half lead and managed to pull one back in the second half but couldnt equalise and Freshford had a few chances missed in the second half to finish off the game. The teams vote for man of the match was Wel Bakali and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Jake Gaines for missing an open goal.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 1 Blue Circle (2 - 0 HT)
BRADFORD BEATEN AWAY - 16/10/10
Freshford travelled to Bradford Utd who are a much changed team this year and under new management, we introduced some new faces with Dan Fowler and Alex Huscroft starting and Wel Bakali coming on as sub all making their debuts for the club. The game started fairly even and both sides creating chances but no one finding the first goal but Ryan Mortimer who was very energetic against his old club was causing problems and with ten minutes to go till half time a Rich Bliha corner was headed home strongly by Ryan to give us the lead. The second half saw Freshford desperate to improve on their lead as Bradford were not backing down and it took some individual work from Dan Fowler to find himself some space and fire past the keeper to get his forst goal for Freshford then he was involved in the third forcing the defender under pressure and somehow clearing his own keeper to score an own goal. Freshford managed to let Bradford back in the game by slack marking on a corner but were soon able to cancel it out with a Corner from Wel Bakali found Alex Huscroft to steer it home for his first goal for the club as well. The teams vote for man of the match was Alex Huscroft and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Tony Brett for skying a chance well over the bar from about 8 yards out.
Final Score: Bradford Utd 1 - 4 Freshford Utd (0 - 1 HT)

five against frome - 09/10/10
Freshford hosted Frome Town Sports in the league and started off the game well taking the lead through a goal from Jed osborne which was an individual effort then an assist from Phil Little set up Elliot Smith to give us a two goal lead. We let things slip and a good strike after errors from us gave Frome a lift to make them only one goal behind at half time. We got back on track in the second half and continued pressing the oppositions goal and Jed Osborne turned provider in setting up Phil Little to give us the two goal lead back and dampen Fromes hopes soon Rich Bliha set up Jed Osborne for his second of the game. Then to finish the game off his first League goal and an individual goal from Vince Evans gave us the fifth goal. The teams vote for man of the match was Elliot Smith and the 'Jaffa' was awarded to Jed Osborne for missing a few one on ones where he could of got his Hat trick.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 5 - 1 Frome Town Sports (2 - 1 HT)
Draw with deverills 02/10/10
Freshford travelled to Heytesbury to play The Deverills who are always a tough team to play and a few key players missing was not the best start we could of asked for. We started the game mainly on the back foot with the hosts pressing our defence continuously and forcing us to change our position to cancel out the threat, midway through the half the Deverills got the better of our defence with their pace and numbers forward and took the lead in the first half. The second half started off much the same but with the oppositions frustration on not being able to find the second goal Freshford kept pushing and were creating good chances. With about 5 minutes to go Freshford had a free kick on the edge of the box which when delivered a clear push on Chris Birleson was spotted by the referee who awarded the penalty. The penalty was taken by Rich Bliha and well saved by the keeper but as Rich approached the ball the defender who just received a yellow for his push in the box was nearly ten yards inside the box before Rich hit the ball which was done on purpose and very ungentlemanly conduct but the ref did not award him his second yellow but ordered the penalty to be taken again which Rich Bliha made no mistake on the second chance and levelled the score. Freshford could of had another penalty in teh last few seconds for more pushing in teh box but the ref decided to blow the final whistle. The teams vote for man of the match was Dave Birleson and the 'Jaffa' was given to Simon Kitchen for running to take a corner and pushing Ryan out the way saying "i have got this" and then ballooned the corner back towards our own defence.
Final Score: The Deverills 1 - 1 Freshford Utd (1 - 0 HT)
sloppy win against semmington 25/09/10
Freshford hosted Semmington Magpies who have seemed to become Freshfords bogey team and nothing was different this time as we started the game very lazy and not looking interested at all. Luckily the opposition seemed to be in much the same mood and neither side creating many chances. With about ten minutes left in the half a corner from Jed Osborne found Phil Little unmarked at the front post making no mistake with a tap in to the net. Freshford did not go on from here but instead with some lapse defending themselves let Semmington equalise just before half time. The second half was much the same as the first with neither side looking like they wanted to go on and win the game, with ten minutes left finally a winner was found when Jed Osborne made a good break down the right and put the ball across the box to find Chris Birleson who tapped it in to give Freshford the advantage and the points. The teams vote for man of the match was Jed Osborne and the 'Jaffa' was given to Jake Gaines for a good run in to the box being one on one with the keeper and putting the ball wide.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 1 Semmington Magpies (1 - 1 HT)
Seend seen off with Five 18/09/10
Freshford travelled to Seend not sure what to expect form the League winners for the past 2 seasons with big changes in their squad and management. The game started off the normal fair battle between the 2 sides with both teams creating chances but midway through the half Freshford forced through the defence with a good ball from Phil little who found Ryan Mortimer happy to put it past the advancing keeper. Near the end of the half Mark Williams suprised himself when the opposition seemed to open up for him making a run from the halfway line ending up with a one on one with their keeper which he Toe Punted straight at the keeper to earn himself the Jaffa but luckily the keeper didnt hold it and Jake Gaines was there to slot home the second. Freshford expected Seend to come at them hard in the second half but it never came and any slight oppurtunity was cut out straight away. Midway through the second half a long kick from James Moody bounced between the defenders and keeper to which the keeper misread the bounce and could only help the ball carry on in to the empty net. Freshford only grew from here and were pressuring the home teams goal and a ball in from Phil Little found Jed Osborne making no mistake and firing in to make it 4 and then a few minutes later Simon Kitchen set up Jed Osborne for his 2nd of the game and wrapping up a brilliant result for us. The teams vote for man of the match was Mark Williams as well as the 'Jaffa' for his brilliant run ending with a Toe Punt straight at the keeper.
Final Score: Seend Utd 0 - 5 Freshford Utd (0 - 2 HT)

The nominated player has to bring Jaffa Cakes for the next week for before the game but if they fail to do so they will have to wear the forefit for the whole game.

WELL EARNED wIN AT WESTBURY 11/09/10
Freshford travelled to Meadow Lane to take on Westbury United Reserves who had a great start to the season and most were saying would be the likely winners come the end of the season. With a few people away we started a bit nervous and struggling to create much going forward and being ran around by a well organised opposition. Midway through the first half some desperate defending was not enough to give Westbury the lead after a few goal mouth scrambles and we had a rocky ten minutes trying to sort our shape. With five minutes to go a ball over the top saw Ryan Mortimer through one one one with the keeper who saved well but couldnt stop Dave Birleson slotting home the rebound from just inside the box. The second half saw Freshford creating as many chances as their opponents and the game was looking level then a defensive error midway through the half gave Westbury the lead again. Freshford never gave up and kept creating chances and a blocked shot from Dave Birleson on teh edge of the westbury box fell nicely to Chris Foley who found a gap and made no mistake from just inside the box. With minutes to go it seemed a draw was inevitable but a cross in to the opposition box was well flicked on by Elliot Smith and Jed Osborne turned his man and slotted home the winner in the last minute of the game. The teams vote for man of the match was Elliot Smith.
Final Score: Westbury United Reserves 2 - 3 Freshford Utd (1 - 1 HT)
County Cup draws 08/09/10
Freshford have received a bye in the First rounds of the Wiltshire Junior Cup and the Somerset Junior Cup. The draws for the Second rounds will be done in mid October.
POINTS THROWN AT BROUGHTON 07/09/10
Freshford travelled to Broughton Gifford to find the pitch in the best condition it has seen for a long time and with a few people missing started the battle well against a young and up for it opposition. Freshford dominated the first half with some very close chances but no one able to find the back of the net. The second half continued on the same way and within ten minutes a well delivered free kick from Elliot Smith found Phil Little with a great header leaving the keeper standing. Good interplay throughout the team saw Brougton wondering how to get back in the game and some good work from Phil Little enabled him to thread the ball through to Jed Osborne who made no mistake one on one with the keeper to give us a two goal cushion. Instead of carrying on and finding the third we seemed to switch off and let Broughton break through and within ten minutes they got 2 goals back leaving Freshford down in the dumps as all 3 points should of been taken and secured. The teams vote for man of the match was Elliot Smith.
Final Score: Broughton Gifford 2 - 2 Freshford Utd (0 - 0 HT)
FRUSTRATING START TO THE LEAGUE 04/09/10
Freshford played host to Trowbridge Wanderers in the first game of the season and started off the season under pressure with the oppostions strikers causing their normal good pressure which found us 2 goals down at half time. Freshford started the second half better and created more chances and soon forced the opposition in to mistakes and a handball gave us a penalty to get on the score sheet which Rich Bliha calmly slotted away. We carried on pressing and found their keeper in good form plus goal line clearences, hitting the post and some missed chances the opposition took advantage of our continual pressing for the equaliser and got 2 breakaway goals in the last 5 minutes to kill off the game. The teams vote for man of the match was Phil Little.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 4 Trowbridge Wanderers (0 - 2 HT)
loss in last pre season 31/08/10
Freshford hosted Bath Arsenal for their last game of the pre season and found it not as easy as the others and conceeding 3 goals in the first half. The second half was much brighter with more chances being created and with a 30 yard strike Chris Foley getting a goal back for us.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 3 Bath Arsenal (0 - 3 HT)

Thanks to everyone who helped and gave up their time to help the tournament be a success and to the officials who kept control of the games throughout the day.
The Final was between Badford United and Broughton Gifford which was 1-1 after full time and in extra time Broughton Gifford found the winning goal and held on to the lead to be the first winners of the Henry Brown Memorial Cup. Freshford eneterd 2 teams but struggled with injuries prior to the tournament and it came between our teams on who went through to the Quarter Finals and Goal difference was the deciding factor which handed a tie against Broughton Gifford for one of our teams which we unfortunately lost 1-0. Both teams battled well and put up a good fight for other teams.

WIN AT BOBBLY BROMHAM - 08/05/10
Freshford travelled to Bromham for the final game of the season knowing a win would give us a chance of finishing 3rd in the league if Bradford beat Trowbridge Wanderers. We started the game against the wind and going uphill on a very bobbly hard pitch.
Terrible against trowbridge - 01/05/10
Freshford hosted Trowbridge Wanderers in potentially the decider for third place in the league but we started the game very unorganised and not doing our jobs and within ten minutes we were three goals down from three shots. With some shufflimg around of players we managed to get a goal back from some good work from Tony Brett setting up Phil Little to give us a goal. Unfortunately this didnt phase the opposition and by half time they had found another three goals from only a handfull more shots.
After a halftime telling off we started teh second half better and were creating more chances but struggling to find the second goal to set us on our way to any kind of comeback. Eventually with ten minutes to go Simon Kitchens shot was helped over the line by Rich Bliha but we were unable to go on from this andd get any more.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 6 Trowbridge Wanderers
Lavington call off at last - 27/04/10
Freshford were due to host Lavington in the league but as half suspected they surrendered the game and the points a few hours before the game as they could not raise a team. This will give us the three points and a well deserved break.
POINTS SHARED WITH SEEND AGAIN - 24/04/10
We entertained league leaders Seend at Browns Park with a yet again weakened team with most of teh team carrying injuries and some failing late fitness tests, with nothing to loose everyone started the game well and were matching Seend for all they threw at us. With about fifteen minutes gone a Tont Brett corner found Chris Birleson unmarked at he back post to head it in to give us the lead, he was close to doing the same again minutes later from a Rich Bliha corner but could not quite jump high enough. Not long after a run through the defence by Mark Birleson rewarded him with a chance which was slotted past the keeper to give us the second goal of the game. Unfortunately we could not carry on our great start and Seend started playing and creating chances and by half time they were level in the game.
The Second Half was fought out at a frantic pace with both teams creating good chances but Freshfords injuries starting to show through. However neither team could find the winning goal and the points were shared with Seend for the second time this season.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 2 Seend Utd
Teams tied at trowbridge - 22/04/10
Freshford met Trowbridge Wanderers for the first time this season at their ground with a weakened team but still up for the challenge. The first half was full of both sides creating chances but neither side being able to find the finishing result.
The Second Half carried on much the same until we were caught on the break and lack of communication let their striker through who sliced the ball in to the top corner to take the lead. Fresshford felt this was undeserved and raised their game to get an equaliser and created many chances, then Fynn McCarthy came on for the last twenty minutes and created problems for the opposition and with five minutes to go his attempt on goal was finished off by Tony Brett to tie the scores. In the last minute we had the chance to win the game but unfortunately the ball fell to Jamie Birleson who found his "shot" cleared off the line.
Final Score: Trowbridge Wanderers 1 - 1 Freshford Utd
Lucky win at lavington - 20/04/10
A bare eleven travelled to Lavington and only just made it in time to start with a full team but with no warm up able to be done we were on the back foot from the start. Trying to contain the attacks from a young and quick team a cleared corner fell to a Lavington player on the edge of the box who found the bottom corner to give them the lead. We soon got going and started plaing football and were rewarded for the pressure put on the opposition a cross delivered to the back post which the keeper fumbled and Rich Bliha was on hand to tap it in. Ten minutes later a Rich Bliha corner was curling in the goal a young Lavington midfielder jumped only to catch the ball to stop it going in and he was shown a red card which he couldnt of expected anything else and a penalty given. Phil Little's penalty was saved well by the keeper and put out for a corner which Simon Kitchen delivered to find Andrew Backman at the front post to get his first goal of the season.
Freshford started the second half very sluggish and were soon on the back foot again with Lavington putting the pressure on and a few close calls were had goal line clearance from Andrew Backman was required along with a triple save from Chris Birleson. With Freshford picking up injuries and no subs available we were soon looking like the walking wounded and Lavington sensed a chance of a comeback and drew themselves level with twenty minutes to go. We still looked dangerous on the break and a few chances went begging but then a Phil Little flick found Simon Kitchen to headhome the winning goal.
Final Score: Lavington 2 - 3 Freshford Utd
Blue Circle beaten - 17/04/10
We travelled to Blue Circle to a very weather beaten pitch and with Mike Little still in goal we played a very different Blue Circle side, the game was started well by both sides creating chances and it wasnt long before Phil Little put Dean Stritch throughon goal where he calmly put it past the oncomng keeper to give us the lead until halftime
The Second Half saw Freshford a bit too relaxed and within ten minutes a long range effort from Blue Circle creeped in and five minutes later they scored another to take the lead. Luckily we didnt drop our heads and went on to create chances and get back to some simple passing football and Phil Little threaded a ball through for Mark Birleson who levelled the scores. Within a few minutes Mark Birleson returned the favour and put Phil Little through to give us the lead again. With ten minutes to go some good interplay from Mark Birleson and Jed Osborne left Jed in space who unselfishly squared the ball to Rich Bliha to finish the game off.
Final Score: Blue Circle 2 - 4 Freshford Utd
Shared Points at seend - 15/04/10
Freshford travelled to Seend with a few forced injury changes and Mike Little having to play in goal with James Moody on Honeymoon and Chris Birleson injured. We were matching Seend for everything they threw at us and creating chances ourselves but then midway through the half Seend took the lead from players not playing the whistle. It didnt put our heads down and within 5 minutes a Phil Little lofted pass found Paul Mockridge there to slot the ball home to level the game.
The Second Half started well with Freshford seeming the better side more chances were created but couldnt find the finishing touch. Midway through the half Seend managed to take the lead with a long range shot which Mike seemed to think was going wide but crept in at the post, with it all to do we carried on piling the pressure on and were rewarded with five minutes to go a delivery from Rich Bliha found Phil Little at the back post to head home. The game could of been won in teh last minute but a good save from the keeper dennied Jamie Birleson the glory.
Final Score: Seend Utd 2 - 2 Freshford Utd
fEEBLE DISPLAY AGAINST FROME - 13/04/10
We played Frome Town Sports at home in the League on a day where it seemed everyone was not totally on their game, The game started off brightly with Freshford creating some good chances but minds wandering Frome took the lead with players being left with a free header in from a corner.
The Second Half did not start much better with our heads down and no one seeming up for the game a stunning Free kick on the edge of the box was scored by Frome then a defensive error let Frome in on goal to seal the game. We still seemed distant but got a consolationgoal with ten minutes to goal where a flick from Mike Little forced an own goal.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 3 Frome Town Sports
Broughton Beaten - 10/04/10
Freshford hosted Broughton FC in the league on a perfect day for football but still with a few players missing. Broughton started the game better than Freshford creating a few chances and came very close to taking the lead but a fine save from Chris Birleson dampened their hopes. We pushed on from here to take the lead after a big goal mouth scramble which seemed to last for a long time eventually Andy Donald headed the ball in teh back of the net to give us the lead at halftime.
The second half we carried on creating chances and pressing the opposition and hard work was paid off with a Simon Kitchen shot parried by the keeper and Jed Osborne following to force the ball home to relax the nerves and a two goal advantage. With more pressing play and not many attacks made by Broughton Freshford wrapped up the game with a well delivered ball from Jed Osborne found Rich Bliha free at the backpost to give us the third goal and all three points.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 3 - 0 Broughton FC
STRUGGLE AT DEVERILLS - 08/04/10
We travelled to the rubbish pitch at Heytesbury to play The Deverills hoping to get the double over them this season, with people late from work and a few injuries we welcomed back Andrew Donald and gave Jed Osborne his first start. We soon realised it was going to be a tough game with the opposition creating chances early on and our shuffled line up struggling to deal with the pitch and create the final ball. Midway through the half a bit too much space was given to the Deverills and a shot from the edge of the box gave them the lead. We didnt give up and carried on creating chances and started applying pressure and soon were rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the box which Rich Bliha stepped up and rocketed it in to the far top corner leaving their keeper no chance and bringing the scores level until half time.
The second half carried on the same way with both sides creating good chances and the challenges getting heated at times, we started to show our weaknesses and injury problems with about twenty minutes to go and with no subs who were fit we had to carry on and were caught out on a break by the opposition which they took the advantage and the second goal. We tried pushing on to get a second goal ourselves and came close a few times but were caught in the last five minutes with another breakaway by the deverills and they wrapped up the game with a third goal.
Final Score : The Deverills 3 - 1 Freshford Utd
POINTS SHARED WITH CIRCLE - 06/04/10
We hosted Blue Circle for the second time in four days but this time in the League and with some good weather and hard work the pitch was remarkably playable after it was in a terrible state after the last game in the treterous rain. The game started off well with both sides creating chances but also dealing with each others counter attacks quite comfortably. At half time no goals were scored but some good play from both teams was being displayed.
The second half carried on much the same as the first and Freshford soon made one of their chances work with a knocked down cross finding Chris Birleson who laid it in to Phil Little on the edge of the box who delightfully slotted the ball in the to corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Freshford pressed and tried for the second goal but couldnt quite find the final ball or finish. Blue Circle didnt lay back either and with ten minutes left battled through and managed to get an equaliser to share the points.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 1 Blue Circle
Beaten by blue circle - 03/04/10
We entertained Blue Circle in the semi fianl of the A&B Cup on a very wet day with our pitch starting off being a great surface but constant rain showers hours before the game soon turned it in to a very boggy pitch. We couldnt of got off to a worse start with Blue Circle taking the lead within minutes a quick throwing and the player being able to run past a few players with no challenge they had teh lead. The rest of the first half was mainly a stalemate with both teams creating chances but no one managing to find the next goal.
The second half saw Freshford have most of the ball creating good play but not being able to get the equaliser and Blue Circle still looking dangerous on the break creating some close calls at the other end. Within the dying minutes with Freshford putting on the pressure a Simon Kitchen was delivered on top of the keeper who fumbled the ball in to his own net to put the game to extra time. Blue Circle took their chances early on in extra time with a saved free kick the ball was easily tapped in by the advancing Blue Circle players. With Freshford trying to push on to equalise they were caught out in the last ten minutes with tired legs and a looping header gave them a 2 goal advantage and the game.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 1 Blue Circle ( 1-3 After Extra Time)
Pub quiz a great success - 27/03/10
Phil & Mike Little arranged a Pub Quiz to raise some more funds for the Club which was held at the Bustard Club in Trowbridge with a good turn out of 41 people making up 9 different teams Mike and Phil delivered a well organised quiz with 2 bonus games of Deal or no Deal thrown in to raise a bit more cash. With the help of their parents a buffet was also prepared and well eaten at the interval, the winners of the quiz were friends of the Little Family 'The Freshford Rovers'. A raffle was also organised and thanks to all those who donated prizes for this also thanks to a Freshford Legend Bob Farrion who gave a generous special donation. The total raised for the night was £491.50 which is a great achievement and hopefully we can add this as a yearly event for fundraising. Many thanks to Mike, Phil and their parents for all their hard work and to The Bustard Club for supplying the venue.
stunners beat steeple ashton - 27/03/10
Freshford hosted Steeple Ashton in the league with a few key players missing but new faces in the line up, we were missing Tony Brett and James Moody from the line up but welcomed Jed Osborne in for his first game for us since pre-season. The game was started well by us containging teh steeple ashton forwards easily and creating chances at the other end keeping their keeper very busy, it wasnt until half an hour in to the game where a corner from Rich Bliha was cleared to the edge of the box where Simon Kitchen took no hesitation in firing it back through the crowd and in to the back of the net. We continued to create chances and then on the break Mark Birleson slotted a ball through to Mike Little who beat the offside trap and chipped the ball over the advancing keeper to give us a two nil lead at half time.
The second half started much the same as the first with Freshford dominating but ten minutes in a silly Penalty was given away by Chris Gale which Steeple Ashton scored to inspire their hopes. We were on edge for ten minutes with the opposition putting pressure on just as much as we were then another well delivered corner by Rich Bliha was cleared to the waiting Simon Kitchen to slam home another edge of the box stunner. With our nerves settled from the two goal advantage restored we carried on creating chances and a chased down ball by Mark Birleson was rewarded when he won the ball from their defender and knocked it in at the far post at a tight angle to make it four goals fro us. With their keeper still making good saves with five minutes to go he could only parry a shot in to the path of Jed Osborne who made no mistake in hitting the back of the net to give finish the game.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 5 - 1 Steeple Ashton
WIN & CLEAN SHEET AT FROME - 20/03/10
We travelled to Frome Town Sports with a weakened side due to injuries but welcomed back Chris Gale since his debut injury at the beginning of the season. The game started very scrappy with the weather taking its normal toll on the game at Gypsy Lane, both sides were matching each other for most of the first half with half chances being created but neither team able to take the lead.
The second half started much the same until Freshford started creating a bit more pressure and using the weather conditions to their advantage, ten minutes in a well delivered corner wasmet by Mike Little who glanced it on to find the oppositions captain turning his back on the ball only a yard out and it hit the defender and went in the goal to give Freshford the lead. The rest of the game was played much more as the first half giving Freshford the points and not a very exciting game.
Final Score: Frome Town Sports 0 - 1 Freshford Utd
PETHERTON STEAL PLACE IN FINAL - 13/03/10
Freshford played host to South Petherton in the Semi Final of the Somerset Cup, on a perfect day for football we were missing a few key players but welcomed back Jake Gaines form not playing since before Christmas. We started the game brightly containing the attacks from the visitors and starting to create chances at the other end. Unfortunately after 15 minutes Dave Birleson had to be replaced due to injury, we soon made good advantage of an aerial threat in their goalmouth and a long free kick from Rich Bliha found Phil Little getting his head on it before the keeper could claim it and giving us the lead. With the game staying reasonably level some of the Petherton challenges were getting worse and just before halftime Paul Mockridge injured his ankle and was unable to carry on.
We started the second half with a new central midfield due to injuries which put us on the backfoot and Petherton eager to get back in the game the tempo was raised. Midway through the half we conceeded a penalty which was converted and put us on the backfoot with Petherton taking the lead 5 minutes later after a possible foul on our defender. We eventually sorted ourselves out and started creating chances again and were rewarded ten minutes from time with a penalty which Phil Little calmly slotted away to put the game into extra time. With everyone fighting for energy to start the extra time we were looking to be in control but not creating many chances, Petherton put some fresh legs on creating more work for us and soon it paid off with a lucky half turn kick on teh edge of the box sneaking in the far corner to give them the lead. The second half of extra time continued with the ref for some reason letting Petherton away with everything and favouring them they were given a free kick on the edge of the box which was converted to just as much finish the game. Freshford didnt give up and clawed a goal back with minutes to go from Simon Kitchen Free kick which Chris Birleson glanced past the keeper who was caught out of position. A good cup run came to a sad end with injuries and an unfair referee taking their toll on the game.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 2 South Petherton (3-4 After Extra Time)
Four against fever - 06/03/10
Freshford travelled to Christie Miller sports centre to take on Fever FC in the Quarter Finals of the A & B Cup with an injury ridden team and players missing. James Moody was away on his Stag do so Chris Birleson played in goal with an injury also a first start of the season for Stuart Arnold. The hosts started the game full of energy and with some good pace on their side were testing the defence on the break. The game was reasonably level for 20 minutes until we were caught out on the break and the pace of the Fever winger set him free to set up his striker to take the lead. The hosts then made things worse for themselves by arguing with each other and the referee, Freshford took advantage of this and some sloppy defending from a ball in by Mike Little found Rich Bliha at the back post to slot the ball away for the equaliser. before the break Mike delivered again to the backpost and Rich was on hand again to slot home his second of the game.
Freshford started the second half well with good pressure from Phil Little set brother Mike free to get his goal for the game, we then looked like wrapping up the game with a long free kick from Tony Brett clearing the defence and finding Rich Bliha at the back post to claim his hat trick. Freshford then were forced to defend for the last twenty minutes as various injuries were picked up and our only substitute used we had 2 injured players just sitting up front and a whole team shuffle which let Fever break and cause problems but some determination and good defending held them back until the end. This earned Freshford a home tie on Easter Saturday against Blue Circle in the Semi Final.
Final Score: Fever FC 1 - 4 Freshford Utd
BEATEN BY BROMHAM - 27/02/10
On a soggy picth we played host to Bromham who had not won a league game this season and with this in the back of our mind we started the game very lazy and thinking we were much better. Eventually some added pressure and forced corners found Andrew Backman heading the ball back in from a cleared corner which Phil Little knocked in to Chris Birleson for a tap in to take the lead. Some lapse marking and defending let Bromham in on a break and with ten minutes before half time the scores were level.
The second half started brighter for Freshford with Chris Birleson thinking he had scored again with a header from a Simon Kitchen corner but unfortunately finding the referee thinking there was leverage used in the jump and the goal being disallowed. This took an effect on Freshford and more lapse defending let Bromham in again to take the lead. Freshford were struggling to gain control and also find an equalising goal with many goal line clearences and hitting the crossbar they were left regretting starting the game alot better and paying for some lapse defending.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1 - 2 Bromham
Battle at bradford - 20/02/10
We travelled to Bradford for our first league game in over 2 months to find the normal battle ahead of us with the hosts always up for an upset. We started the game well creating chances and fending of the attacks from Bradford, halfway through the first half we were presented with a free kick inside their half which Chris Birleson delivered over the defence to find Rich Bliha on a well timed run to put it past the keeper to take the lead. This didnt stop Bradford and five minutes later a Bradford breakaway saw the sides draw level. Freshford kept raising their game and soon some good interplay between Simon Kitchen and Phil Little ended up with a cross from Simon to find Phil attacking the front post to poke it past the keeper. Just before halftime Bradford were reduced to ten men after the ref dismissed their captain.
The second half saw Freshford unable to deal with having an extra man and many players leaving their jobs to others and were soon caught out on a break and Bradford drew the sides level. Freshford managed to dig in after a few moments of uncertainty and confussion took teh upper hand again with goals from Mike Little and Simon Kitchen. Bradford still determined made a few changes and managed to take a goal back with ten minutes to go but it was soon cancelled out by Rich Bliha getting his second of the game and sealing the result and three points.
Final Score: Bradford Utd 3 - 5 Freshford Utd

Locomotives beaten in 1/4 final - 13/02/10
Freshford travelled to Taunton to play The Locomotives in the Quarter Final of the Somerset Cup, making a road trip out of it we arrived a bit later than planned and only had time for a brief warm up and started the game slightly on the back foot but with Mike Little closing down the oppostions keeper in the first few minutes was rewarded with a misskick by the keeper giving Mike the ball who slotted it past the stranded keeper for Freshford to take the lead. As normal we seemed to sit back and fortunately the defence held strong and some fine saves from James Moody kept the score one nil to Freshford.
The second half should of seen Freshford go on to seal the game with teh wind and slope advantage but everyone seemed to still be on the coach and often found themselves under pressure. Luckily the hosts could not take advantage of their chances and a few close call penalty decisions were not given against Freshford and we created a few good saves from the oppositions keeper. With ten minutes to go Freshford pressured the opposition goal and a goalline clearance which seemed to be well over the line was given in favour of the hosts and left us holding on till the very end. Freshford will now go in to the draw for the Semi Finals.
Final Score: Locomotives 0 - 1 Freshford Utd

Bradford beaten in a&b cup - 06/02/10
Freshford played hosts to Bradford Utd in the last 16 of the A & B Cup, with a few injuries and people away there was a welcome return from Paul Mockridge who is now able to play more often with his Business running well. We started the game thinking it would be easy and got the first goal of the match with Rich Bliha setting up Phil Little to head home, however Bradford decided they were not here to spectate and soon put the pressure on Freshford and forcing errors and putting the scores level before being given a penalty to take them in to half time 2-1 up.
Freshford reshaped and organised themselves better and within the first 5 minutes Mike Little set up Rich Bliha to make the scores level again, we went on form here and started to dominate and rattle the opposition who were resolving to some dangerous challenges. Freshford kept their heads and a quick over the top free kick from Chris Birleson put Mike Little through one on one to put the hosts in the lead again. With things going well it was only a few minutes before we let them back in again and a lapse in concentration put the scores level again. Freshford picked themselves up again and pressured the Bradford defence and Phil Little soon found Paul Mockridge to get his first goal of his frist game of the season, we then hung on to the lead despite Bradford throwing everything at the game but not getting the result. Freshford have earnt themself what lookslike an away tie to Fever FC in the Quarter Finals.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 4 - 3 Bradford Utd

extra time at meadow rangers needed to make quarter final- 30/01/10
We travelled to Midsommer Norton to challenge unbeaten Meadow Rangers with a few injuries and everyone not fully fit from having no game for 7 weeks. We started the game a bit rusty but soon took the lead through a well delivered free kick by Tony Brett forund Phil Little heading past the helpless keeper. With lapses of concentration we were soon under pressure and conceeded 2 goals within five minutes, luckily we managed to dig our heels in and fight of the Rangers attacks and Andrew Backman created a chance to set up Mike Little to bring the scores level.
With the advantage of the slope in the second half Freshford were the team to take the advantage and get their third goal with Mike Little setting up Rich Bliha. Unfortunately the lead was only held for ten minutes before Meadow Rangers came back again to bring the sides level with twenty minutes left. Freshford not really wanting extra time managed to get a 4th goal with a well taken free kick from Mike Little beating the keeper from the edge of the box, however we couldnot hold on to the lead and with ten minutes to go the score was levelled again.
Freshford with no subs left and most people struggling were hoping to hang on through extra time but some players managed to raise the game and do what was needed it was looking to go Freshfords way. After the first half of extra time being level Freshford had the last half battling uphill but some good work on the break from Rich Bliha found Phil Little to put Freshford in front again. Phil little continued to dominate up front and with Mike helping out in defence to try and keep the lead Phil went on to take on the weary defenders and soon found himself awarded a penalty which he calmly slottedhome to complete his hat trick.
Final Score AET: Meadow Rangers 4 - 6 Freshford Utd (4 - 4 after 90 Minutes)
Meadow Rangers in last 16 - 14/12/09
Freshford have been handed an away tie in the last sixteen of the Somerset cup, it will be played on Saturday 9th January 2010 against Meadow Rangers who are in the Mid-Somerset Premier League. Rangers are having a good start to their season having played 6 league games and unbeaten so far. Freshford do know of Meadow Rangers from arranging a few Pre-Season friendlies in previous years but Rangers always pulling out at the last minute. Hopefully the lads can do a job against the Midsomer Norton side and progress to the Quarter Finals.
Merriot rovers battered - 12/12/09
Freshford entertained Merriot Rovers from the the Perry Street league in the 3rd round of the Somerest Cup. The game started well with both sides creating good chances and Freshford having their work cut out with some good last ditch challenges keeping the visitors off the score sheet. After twenty minutes Freshford started to take control of the game and soon opened the scoring with Mike Little being set free down the wing and the keeper coming too far out of his goal Mike rounded him and slotted it in the empty net from outside the box.
With the game still being fairly even we started the second half brightly and within five minutes got a second goal coming from a good cross from Dave Birleson finding Simon Kitchen on the end to slot home. Freshford picked up steam from here and found Rich Bliha finding more and more space on the back post to get his goal from a well dilvered balls from Dave Birleson. The opposition who travelled with no subs had to go to ten men due to injuruy and were stretched well by the goal hungry hosts, soon Mike Little found space again with good work form his brother Phil and killed the game off with our 4th. Some forced errors were occuring with Rich Bliha reacting the quickest to a bad clearance from the keeper and slotting in to an empty net. Simon Kitchen had a Free kick on the edge of the box where he struck well and a deflection from a defender ensured it sailed past the keeper. The game was finished nicely with a good ball in from Mike Little for Rich Bliha attacking the back post again to make his Hatrick. A good clean sheet from Freshford and progression in to the last sixteen of the competition.
Final Score : Freshford Utd 7 - 0 Merriot Rovers
Boggy Broughton battle - 05/12/09
Freshford travelled to old rivals Broughton with the game being in doubt due to weather conditions again but the ref decided it was playable. The conditions were not the best with mole hills, long grass and boogy areas of the pitch but we started the game brightly keeping their young strikers at bay with good offside traps and creating good football ourselves. It wasnt long before a well delivered corner form Mark Birleson found Phil Little on the end to head home the first goal, Mark shortly found himself creating another oppurtunity and taking it himself to put us two up and looking in control. At the other end the young strikers were getting aggitated being caught offside at least ten genuine times in the first half and with constant moans to the ref soon enough he over ruled the linesman on an obvious offside which resulted in Broughtons first goal. With Freshford still amazed with the refs turn around were caught lapsing and soon conceeded another putting the sides level at half time.
We started the second half well and claimed the first goal of what was to be a goal filled second half with Freshford taking the lead 3-2 then Broughton equalising only for Freshford to reply making it 4-3 and then Broughton equalising again making us think it was going to be one of those days . Fortunately we managed to step up another gear and go on to score four more goals to kill the game off with goals from Mike Little, Mark Birleson, two from Rich Bliha and two more for Phil Little to make his Hatrick.
Final Score : Broughton FC 4 - 8 Freshford Utd
SEEND KNOCK US OUT OF CUP - 28/11/09
We hosted top of the league Seend Utd in the Knockout Cup and started brightly in the first half and dominating the game creating chances and holding Seends attacks off very well. It was mid way through the first half where an attempted shot from Simon Kitchen luckily was sliced in to the path of Mark Birleson who rounded a player and slotted home to give Freshford the lead. We went on and continued to be the team applying the pressure until a defensive mistake let Seend equalise just before half time.
The second half saw Seend start alot better and creating chances and within ten minutes they managed to take the lead from a quick break, Freshford replied straight away creating chances and soon a well delivered cross from Mark Birleson caused confussion between the oppositions keeper and defender who tried chesting it back to his keeper who could not turn quickly enough to stop the ball sneaking inside the post putting the scores level again. Unfortunately it was only level for a couple of minutes before another defensive error let Seend in to take the lead, after this Freshford seemed to collapse with three players having to come off due to injuries and with Freshford still getting their shape managed to conceed two more goals in a matter of minutes. Freshford pushed on the attack but couldnt manage to break the deadlock and within the last 5 minutes conceeded another two goals trying to push for one themselves.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 7 Seend Utd

Progress away at PEN MILL 21/11/09
In a game that should never have been played Freshford came back from 2 early goals to progress to the 3rd round running out 4-2 winners. After the longest away trip of the season & in heavy wind & rain a long kick by Penn Mills keeper bounced once & flew over James's head just crossing the line despite a last ditch clearance. Shortly afterwards another mix up at the back resulted in Penn Mill being 2 up, Mike Little was then taken out by the keeper & had to be replaced by his brother Phil. Although being the better team Freshford were unable to convert any of their chances until just before half time when a cross from Phil Little was held up by the soggy pitch enabling Simon Kitchen to slot home. Freshford started the 2nd half as they left off & soon equalised with a Jake Gaines header coming off the crossbar & bouncing over the line. Freshford did well to keep their heads with a psycho left back not only spitting in Simon's face but also punching Dean with the referee obviously blinded by the er... rain!! With 15 minutes left & neither team wanting extra time Phil Little slotted home 2 quick goals to send Freshford through.
Final Score: Pen Mill 2 - 4 Freshford Utd

Somerset cup game off - 14/11/09
Freshfords away tie to Yeovil side Pen Mill has been called off due to a water logged pitch.
Sorry Day at semington - 07/11/09
Freshford travelled to Semington Magpies without the attitude required for the day. A slightly changed formation from last week due to Tom Giles being involved in a Car accident on the way to the game luckily he was ok just shaken up. Freshford started the game asleep and not doing their jobs which found the home team having 2 shots in the first 5 minutes and being 2 goals up. Eventually Freshford sorted themselves out and started fighting back making the game fire into life with Semmington bringing the more dirty challenges including a blatant stamping which the ref only thought deserved a yellow card. Freshford eventually found the net after a few close chances and penaltys waved away when Phil Little scored with his first League goal of the season.
The second half went from bad to worse for Freshford with not being able to find the net and making substitutions to liven the game found tom Giles twisting his knee and damaging his ligaments leaving us with 10 men after all subs had been made. Whilst pushing for the equaliser Freshford got caught short at the back and the game was sealed with the third goal in the last 5 minutes.
Final Score: Semmington Magpies 3 - 1 Freshford Utd
BRADLEY BEATEN TO PROGRESS IN CUP- 31/10/09
Freshford travelled to a new North Bradley side but with the pitch in a bad state and the lines replaced by big trenches which was comical to see. The ref eventually turned up delaying the kick off by ten minutes and Freshford got off to a good start putting lots of pressure on the home side and creating good chances. It was after 15 mins we took the lead with some good battling from Tom Giles managed to force the ball through to Mike Little for him to steer it round the keeper from the edge of the box. The oppositios keeper pulled off some great saves keeping the home side in the game. On the half hour Mike Little managed to thread the ball through for his strike partner Tom Giles who fought off the defender well and slotted past the advancing keeper to put Freshford two goals to the better. Freshford thinking they had the game won relaxed a little only to find North Bradley not finished yet and a Stoke style long throw in to the box found the defence asleep and the home side grabbing a goal back ten minutes before the half.
Freshford started the second half well going up the hill and creating chances again and were soon able to press the opposition continuously before a oppurtunity arose with Mike Little flicking the ball on from a corner allowing Jake Gaines to get his first goal of the season. Soon after the lead was added to after some good work from Mark Birleson down the line set up Rich Bliha to find the back of the net easily. With Freshford in control and making all three substitutions decided to bicker against the ref who was appearing to help the losing side where possible. Instead of playing the whistle Freshford stopped when an obvious handball was not given by the ref and allowed the Bradley player to run on twenty yards and shoot from the edge of the box with no player attempting to stop him or the shot. The ref was not changing his mind and Freshford gave Bradley a sniff of a comeback once again, luckily Freshford managed to find themselves after a nervy ten minutes and soon broke down the opposition again with good work again from Tom Giles left him one on one with the keeper but having sense to square it to Neil Birleson who was on as a sub an open goal to slot it in to making it 5 - 2 Tom Giles had the oppurtunity for his second with Rich Bliah getting through one on one withe the keeper and squaring to Tom to slot in to an empty net but he only managed to find the trees behind the goal. Freshford progress to the last 16 with a home tie against Bradford Utd on the 19th December.
Final Score: North Bradley AFC 2 - 5 Freshford Utd
FIXTURE & KICK OFF TIME CAHNGE - 28/10/09

SWEET VICTORY AGAINST DEVERILLS - 24/10/09
We played host to one of our bitter rivals The Deverills, with James back in between the posts, Mike back up front and Mark Birleson making a return from injury things were looking good. In a very physical and bitty first half both teams had chances but neither being able to convert them. Freshford tried their new formation of 4-4-2 and it wasnt always working for them with the opposition pushing forward on the break and Freshford defence standing strong but for how long.
The second half saw the weather change and the rain start to come in and Freshford soon found themselves one down when they gave the opposition too much room and an excellent strike form the edge of the box by the Deverills winger. Freshford changed to a 4-5-1 enabling Rich Bliha to play a link role and after a long ball through from Simon Kitchen, Rich chased it down and the keeper fumbled under pressure leaving Rich the space to slot it home putting us back level. Soon after both Dean Stritch and Dave Birleson playing in central midfield complained of injuries and knocks which meant both had to be substituted and a shuffle of the team was required. The introduction of Tom Giles and Adam Hyde got the team flowing again and frustrating the Deverills which soon showed their true colours and were reduced to ten men after Mike Little was kicked in the Head whilst on the floor after a tackle. Freshford made the most of the extra man and were starting to find holes in the defence and a through ball from Andrew Backman set Tom Giles on his way only to be fouled in the box enabling Mike Little to score from the spot. With ten minutes to go Freshford welcomed Stuart Arnold back from a long injury and he got his first run out under his belt. The pressure still piled on from the Deverills pushing to get a point form the game and a harsh penalty was given against Andrew Backman when a shot 2 yards away from him was hit against his arm which was by his side. The Deverill player stepped up to fire it in the bottom left corner to find James Moody equal to his shot and palming it away to keep the lead with a fine penalty save. Freshford had to play the last few minutes with ten men as Russell Stritch was concussed after a leading elbow to his face, but the team kept on battling and secured the three points.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 1 The Deverills FC
Hard work made of cup tie - 17/10/09
Freshford were at home to League newcomers Worton & Cheverell in the Knockout Cup, Freshford without regular keeper James Moody and Chris Birleson injured Mike Little eagerly took the gloves and started in goal. Freshford started brightly against a young but skillfull opposition and soon Rich Bliha clasped on to a Dean Stritch clearance where he took one touch and rifled home from the edge of the box. The partnership of Tom Giles and Phil Little started to show the oppositions weaknesses and Tom set Phil up to put Freshford two goals up, before Phil returned the favour setting Tom up to make it 3 - 0 at half time.
The second half saw Freshford start very sluggish and not dominating like they had done for the majority of the first half, before they could pull themselves togeather the scores were level with 3 goals conceeded within ten minutes. Freshford very frustrated with each other made som changes and got a bit of stability back but another mistake let Worton in to get the 4th with the home side left wondering how they had thrown it all away so easily. Mike Little was pulled out of goal to make use if his attacking presence up front with Russell Stritch taking the gloves for the last 15 minutes of the 2nd half. It was looking like the game was all over when some good link up play in the last few minutes and the opposition tiring, Rich Bliha put the ball across the danger area to find Simon Kitchen ready to head in form a few yards putting the game into extra time.
Freshford pulled themselves togeather for Extra Time and within 5 minutes a very soft penalty was given against Worton which Mike Little gladly slotted away in the bottom corner lowering the oppositions moral even more with all their subs used and a few players carrying injuries. The second half of extra time saw the ever working Tom Giles be awarded with a second goal form a Simon Kitchen corner although it went in off his back it was deserved for his persiatance all game. Freshford progressed through to the next round where they will play Seend Utd at home in a months time.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 4 - 4 Worton & Cheverell (6 - 4 AET)

points shared with bradford - 10/10/09
Back to concentrating on the league Freshford hosted Bradford Utd who had a good start to the season with some suprise results and a strengthened side, Freshford welcomed back Tony Brett who sat in as sweeper allowing Jake Gaines to do a marking job at the back. The game started off being very physical with Bradford using their height advantage at every chance, Freshford were containing their opposition until halfway through the half when unmarked players took their chances and finally put Bradford one goal to the better. The game continued to be reasonably even although Freshford could not produce the final ball until Mike Little forced a handball from Bradford on the edge of their box, whilst setting the wall up still Mike Little acted quickly and shot around the wall making the scores even.
The second half saw both teams pressing for the next goal and it could of gone to either side, after 15 minutes Chris Birleson had to be subsituted after going over on his ankle which seemed like Ligament damage. Russell Stritch made his first appearance of the season replacing him and fitting straight back in to place at the back, the game continued to be fought out fairly but neither team could break the deadlock.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1- 1 Bradford Utd
wilts cup exit by ludgershall - 03/10/09
Freshford entertained Andover side Lugershall in the Wilts Cup, Freshford had a full strength side out and welcomed Chris Gale making his debut in Freshford colours however from the start Freshford were under pressure from a very attacking and dominant team, Chris Gale couldnt shake off a pull he got in the warm up and had to go off injured after 7 minutes. Soon after some lack marking against some taller players enabled the visitors to take the lead after ten minutes from a corner. Freshford were on the back foot the majority of the half struggling to deal with 3 up front and their attacking midfielders.
Freshford started the second half alot brighter and started creating chances and were containing their attacking style, with Freshford creating chances it was after ten minutes in Ludgershall gave away a penalty allowing Phil Little to step up and slot home in the bottom corner. Both teams now had their tails up and were creating good chances and either side were looking like progressing to the next round. With ten minutes to go some very slack refereeing let an obvious foul on Jake Gaines as the last man gave the Ludgershall striker a one on one to take the lead. This didnt help Freshford at all as the ref continued to anger them and pushing forward to get the equaliser in the last minute the visitors wrapped up the win catching Freshford on the break for their third of the game.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 1- 3 Ludgershall
tROWBRIDGE pULL out - 21/09/09
Trowbridge Town A have pulled out of the league with immediate effect, this will mean saturdays 6-2 win will not count at all and may as well be treated like a friendly. Apparently this is due to lack of players over their 3 teams.
Trowbridge Thrashed - 19/09/09
Freshford played hosts to Trowbridge Town A who were an up and down side last year with suprise results. The First half started off with both teams having equal amounts of chances and neither taking the upper hand. Freshford took the lead with another goal from Mike Little but could only hold the lead for ten minutes before the visitors grabbed one back before half time.
The second half saw Freshford come out fighting but soon found Trowbridge getting a goal against the run of play which just inspired Freshford even more and an equalising goal from Mark Birleson came about fifteen minutes in to the second half. Trowbridge seemed to collapse after this with Mike little being in good form and grabbing the next 2 goals completing his first Freshford Hat-trick, then Mark Birleson added another goal to the list before Mike Little added his fourth of the game.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 6 - 2 Trowbridge Town A
Mikes double secures points - 12/09/09
Freshford travelled to the always difficult Steeple Ashton on a perfect day for football with James Moody being absent and a few injuries, but a welcome debut for Rich Bliha. Freshford started brightly and had the majority of the chances and only being threatened on the odd break. It wasnt long before Adam Hyde found some room and threaded a ball through for Mike Little to find the back of the net again.
The second half saw Freshford start a little sluggish but soon putting pressure on the home side again, with the second goal not appearing Freshford started to drift and soon found themselves under pressure. Steeple Ashton took advantage of the pressure and soon managed to equalise after Freshford were unable to clear their lines. This fired up the Freshford side and put them back on the ball threatening the other sides goal with many chances being cleared it was starting to look like we were not going to score again. But some good work from Mark Birleson soon found Mike Little in the right place again to slot home and secure the points for Freshford.
Final Score: Steeple Ashton 1 - 2 Freshford Utd
Frustrating START with SEMMINGTON - 05/09/09
On the opening day of the season we started with a few new additions with Jake Gaines back in Freshford colours and slotting in at sweeper, Tom Giles starting his first season with us starting in midfield and Mike Little committing to us for the season up front alongside his brother Phil. Whilst taking time to settle in to our rhythym we were soon caught on the break by an improved Semmington getting the first goal after 15minutes. The Magpies were dominating the game and creating more chances but Mike Little soon managed to find some room and a through ball from Simon Kitchen enabled Mike to bring thge sides back level. It didnt last long as Semmington were still creating continuous chances and broke the defence down again to make it 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw Freshford overturning the constant first half pressure and putting Semmington on the back foot by scoring an early goal with some good movement and passing with Adam Hyde finally slotting it through to Mike Little to get his second of the game with a crisp finish. Freshford continued to put the pressure on and create good chances only to be frustrated more and more with the opposition keeper having a series of good saves and the woodwork denying us on several occassions. We should of gone on to get the third but it just wasnt to be.
Final Score : Freshford Utd 2 - 2 Semmington Magpies
Blusterry Frome Stalemate - 05/05/09
On a extremely windy Gypsy Lane playing fields Freshford took on a new and young Frome Town Sports where the referee did favour the young players and gave some very strange decisions. Frome were the first to have the advantage of the blusterry conditions but Freshford very much under pressure took the lead through some good work from Adam Hyde setting up Stuart Donohoe to put us in the lead. Soon after Frome took advantage of the wind and caught Freshford on the break to level the scores.
The second half saw Freshford still recovering from the constant first half pressure and struggled to get going and deal with the pace of teh young Frome forwards. The game was fought out in a end to end battle but no one managing to find teh winning goal.
Final Score : Frome Town Sports 1 - 1 Freshford Utd
made hard work of magpies - 02/05/09
Freshford started well on a hot summers day to find themmselves goone up within ten minutes with a corner being half cleared Chris Birleson was there to slot it in past the keeper from 6 yards out. Freshford doubled their lead soon after with a Phil Little header from another corner.
Freshford went in to the second half with confidence but sat back and let the Magpies swarm in and put them on the back foot for the first fifteen minutes before Phil Little set up Adam Hyde to slot home from just inside the box. The magpies then caught Freshford on the break to make it 3 - 1 to put Freshford in a bit of a worry until Phil Little then set up Dave Birleson with a header to wrap the game up.
Final Score : Semington Magpies 1 - 4 Freshford Utd
DISGRACEFUL REF AT DEVERILLS - 28/04/09
Freshford with a injury stricken team travelled to Heytesbury to face The Deverills, an accident blocking the A36 left a few Freshford players stuck in traffic we were forced to start with 8 players. This confused The Deverills who were expecting to take an early advantage and came close but we kept them out and after ten minutes had eleven players on the pitch but no subs. Freshford were dominating the game and creating chances whilst keeping the opposition pinned down. The referee started losing control after he was upset with The Deverills players continuosly swearing and moaning at his decisions, so he spoke to both teams captains and said he would not stand for it and it had to stop otherwise in-direct freekicks would be given and cards would be shown. Five seconds later an opposing player did exactly this and the ref let him get away with it although he was 2 metres from the player.
The second half started well for Freshford still putting The Deverills on the back foot and creating chances, with our effort being rewarded by a corner from Will Taylor which was challenged by Chris Birleson and their keeper flapping at Chris's challenge, the ball fell to Chris's feet which slotted home from six yards. Freshford continued to stay in control until the ref again angered Freshford after a wreckless challenge through the back of Andrew Backman with no intention of playing the ball was seemed unrecognised by the ref who did not even speak to the offending player who was lucky not to cause a bad injury. Five minutes after a soft foul on the edge of the box was awarded to The Deverills which would of not been given if the ref was not so eager to help The Deverills out. The result was a Deverills player beating his marker to get his header in first and bring the scores level. The game was still in the balance until the referee again ruined the game once and for all where he suddenly, after 70 minutes of using his linesman all game where the Deverills obviously forgot how to look along the line and every decision was correct, he decided to over rule the linesman when 3 Deverills players were a good 5 yards offside and let the impeeding team through to make it 2-1. The referee at this point should of had the courtesy to speak to the linesman but refused to and his only answer was that they were not offside although the ref was 30 yards away from the play and had no idea. This ruined the game from then on with the Deverills players becoming even more petty with time wasting and knowing the ref was for some reason on their side and letting them get away with everything.
A game where if there was a non biased ref a fair result would of been delivered but unfortunately Freshford had the game taken away from them by a less than helpfull and fair official, who admitted after the game he may of got a few decisions wrong.
Final Score: The Deverills 2 - 1 Freshford Utd
Draw with westbury - 25/04/09
Freshford were up against a struggling but strong Westbury United A with the surface being ideal with a massive down pour just before the start making the surface quick after the pitch was cut the day before. Both teams got off to a good start creating chances at both ends but no final product being produced until some slack defending left a Westbury striker free to slot the ball in the net.
After the break both teams were still creating good chances if anything the game looking to be more in Freshfords control. After ten minutes a well delivered corner from Will Taylor was met by Chris Birleson just past the penalty spot who headed back across goal in to the bottom corner to put Freshford level. Freshford with their tails up continued to put the pressure on their opponents and after passing his marker Tony Brett powered the ball home from outside the box leaving the keeper with little chance to claim his first goal of the season. With ten minutes to go it was Westbury who managed to break the defence down and a well worked break found the defence stretched and an easy tap in for their striker managed to bring them level. Freshford tried to take the winning goal but could not get past a strong Westbury defence and the points were shared which was probably the fair result.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 2 Westbury Utd A
NORTHBRIDGE HOLD ON - 21/04/09
On another glorious day Freshford faced F.C. Northbridge who were on their last game of the season but already confirmed as relegated playing with no concerns and just for fun. Freshford had a few changes in the side due to work commitments and injuries being without Andrew Backman, Russell Stritch, Neil Birleson, Mark Birleson, Simon Kitchen, Tom Armstrong and Will Taylor. They welcomed back James Moody from injury with Jamie Birleson, Paul Mockridge and Tom Fisher called in to help. Freshford switched it around with Phil Little being not 100% fit Jamie Birleson replaced Chris Birleson at the back putting Chris and Paul Mockridge starting up front.
Another sluggish start from both teams with only half chances being created Freshford were the first to conceed from a Dean Stritch mispass putting a Northbridge player through to finish well. Freshford then woke up a little and started creating again and with a Freshford corner coming back across the goal a cleaver thinking Stuart Donohoe met the ball just in time from going for a goal kick with a perfect inside pass to the unmarked Chris Birleson to slot home from 5 yards. Freshford starting to get on their game and create more chances again found an opposition keeper having a great game keeping Freshford at bay and the crossbar denying Dave Birleson a long range effort. Ten minutes before the half some slack defending from Freshford giving Northbridge time on the ball a clearence from a corner again found an unmarked player on the edge of the box somehow finding the net through the crowd leaving Freshford 2-1 down at half time.
A rejuvinated Freshford started taking the game to Northbridge in the second half with many chances being created and the oppositions keeper somehow keeping them out. Freshford got back on level terms after ten minutes with Tony Brett delivering a perfect ball to Chris Birleson who found himself room on the edge of the box to volley in to the Northbridge top corner with a slight deflection edging it out of the keepers reach. Freshford with their tails up managed to again let Northbridge in with some bad marking leaving a free header from a corner to put the visitors ahead again. Freshford determined not to give up piled on the pressure to find the Northbridge keeper having the luckiest game of his life even when a Dean Stritch strike was destined for goal somehow it got stuck between the keepers legs to deny him. Soon after a Freshford free kick put in to the mixer by Tony Brett was flicked on by Dave Birleson for Chris Birleson to be in the right place again to force it home from 6 yards to claim his first Hatrick for the club.
The last ten minutes was like the alamo in the Northbridge goal but they stood strong even in the last minute when freshford hit the woodwork again and a goal line scramble saw Freshford thinking how did they not get the winning goal.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 3 - 3 F.C. Northbridge
Trowbridge terrible - 18/04/09
A tired Freshford team turned up against Trowbridge Town A with a few changes form injuries with Russell Stritch coming in at the back replacing Chris Birleson who was in goal covering for the injured James Moody.
On a hot day we got off to a sluggish start with neither team creating many chances until a break away ball from the Trowbridge keeper sailed over our defence only for Chris Birleson to miss time his run and let the advancing striker through on an open goal.
Freshford started to improve in the second half only to have their heads dropped again from an own goal which Russell Stritch could do nothing about and was not to blame. Freshford started creating chances again only to find the Trowbridge keeper having a brilliant game and his defence helping him out with goal line clearences. With ten minutes to go a Trowbridge corner was only managed to be half cleared by Chris Birleson which fell to an unmarked player on the edge of the box who managed to find the net through the crowd of players.
It was a poor performance of effort from the Freshford side but also a great day for Trowbridge having all the rub of the green and a great display by their defence leaving Freshford paying for their lack of effort.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 3 Trowbridge Town A
Deverills deny cup glory - 14/04/09
On a very hard Westbury Town pitch Freshford and The Deverills went to battle in the final of the Knockout Cup. There was a few changes to teh Freshford side and a few upset players not being in the starting eleven but everyone played their part and stuck togeather well as a team.
Freshford were up against it for the majority of the first half with the pace and power of a strong Deverills side who were not backing down to any challenge and making Freshford panic a little for the first ten minutes, it was also made clear it was going to be a physical battle with Chris Birleson getting elbowed in the face early on and despite a bruised and bloodied nose the officials set their stool out in claiming not to see anything.
At half time the game was still goalless and Freshford needed to change their plan as Phil Little was just too isolated on such a big pitch. Freshford started the second half brightly starting to create their share of chances whilst always dealing with the Deverills counter attack. Good play by Mark Birleson and Adam Hyde started to put Freshford as the team looking more likely to score. Freshford carried on creating chances with the intriduction of Will Taylor to replace a well worked Phil Little. Freshford could however not take their chances with Paul Mockeridge being well saved from the oppositions keeper and Mark Birleson firing just over.
Against the run of play Freshford could not seem to deal with a break from the Deverills and eventually they tucked the ball away leaving Freshford wondering how they were the ones behind. Freshford threw all they could at the rest of the game also with the introduction of Andrew Backman and Tom Armstrong, unfortunately the Deverills could not be broken down and Freshford were left feeling a bit down and cheated.
Overall it was a good match with plenty of action where the Deverills took their chances and it just wasnt to be Freshfords night, a big Thankyou goes out to all the friends and family who came to support us and to the whole squad for getting us there and being part of the team.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 1 The Deverills
Lavington last minute leveler - 11/04/09
Freshford went back to Lavington wanting revenge for the drumming they received in the cup earleir this year. Freshford started off brightly welcoming back Aidy Baker from a long injury and seeming like he had not been away controlling the Freshford back line and keeping on top of the Lavington attacks. After 10 minutes some good passing and use of the wide space Adam Hyde broke down the right to deliver a inch perfect cross to find the head of Mark Birleson who put it away in the corner leaving the goalkeeper no chance.
Freshford were soon back on the attack and from a corner Dave Birleson rose to outhead his marker which was heading on to Chris Birleson fro a tap in but a Lavington defender beat him to it and put it in his own net. Freshford then seemed to switch off in the second half and Lavington were not done for the day and were putting their opponents on the back foot. Freshford defended well with the odd break which should of resulted in at least one penalty being awarded but with the ref not on the ball Freshfords shouts were waved away.
With 10 minutes to go Myles Hickton went on another mazy run and after the 3rd swipe at the ball by a Freshford player he went to ground from Aidy Bakers challenge and a fair penalty was given which was tucked away giving James not much chance. Freshford holding on for a win were again under attack from the quick Lavington frontline and after a few last minute clearences and saves Aidy Baker caught Hickton again only for another penalty to be conceeded. With 2 minutes left on the clock Lavington put the penalty away to equalise only for Freshford to have a half chance in the last minute but only for the Lavington keeper to gather up his original fumble.
Final Score: Lavington 2 - 2 Freshford Utd
Tonights game off - 07/04/09
Tonights fixtured league game against F.C. Northbridge is off as they are not able to raise a team. This will be classed as a 3-0 win to us and we will be given the points.
BEATEN BY A BETTER BLUE CIRCLE - 04/04/09
Freshford travelled to Westbury to take on Blue Circle to find the pitch being more like concrete than grass but that was no excuse to give a half hearted performance. With Freshford deciding to play against the strong wind the frist half they were tested and pinned back by the long balls and pace of the Blue Circle attackers.
After 20 minutes a good ball against the wind from Andrew Backman enabled Dean Stritch to flick on to Phil Little who cruised pass the sleeping defence and slot it past the keeper to give Freshford the lead. It didnt last long as 5 minutes later Circle pulled one back with a debateable push on Chris Birleson but the ref gave the goal. Freshford were on the back foot for the rest of the half and heads had dropped. Circle then raised the game more in the second half and going down to ten men but not letting this affect them they were rewarded for their hard work with another goal against the run of play.
Chris Birleson should of levelled for Freshford but instead of just finding the target it was put out for a throwing. Circle then got another which was pretty unstopable before Freshford raised their game for 5 mins and Dave Birleson got one back following up Mark Birleson's parried shot. Circle then scored another unstopable goal taking all three points which they deserved against a poor Freshford performance.
Final Score: Blue Circle 4 - 2 Freshford Utd
steeple ashton beaten again - 28/03/09
Freshford faced Steeple Ashton again for the second week running but in the league this time which would be a six pointer with Ashton laying just above Freshford in the league table.
Freshford got off to a slow start as the thoughts of thumping them 5-0 the week before obviously fresh in our minds. Steeple Ashton had many changes to their side including old Freshford boy Robin Walker starting up front for them, Ashton started well but could not break the Freshford stronghold with James Moody and his back four on the ball.
At half time it was still even with everything to play for but Freshford raised their game in the second half and looking more promising and the more likely team to score. The break came from a Freshford corner where Andrew Backman headed back across the box only for Neil Birleson to slice his shot which turned in to being a lovely pass for Phil Little to turn it in to the back of the net and calming Freshfords nerves.
We got our passing game flowing again and good play by Simon Kitchen fed the ball into the box perfectly to Dave Birleson who slotted it pass the advancing keeper. Freshford then seemed to relax again but Ashton were not stopping, some childish chatback got the Aston captain sent off for mouthing after a decision didnt go his way.
With five minutes to go Robin Walker came back to haunt his old team where a tangle of legs with Stuart Donohoe the referee pointed to the spot for a soft but fair penalty. Steeple Ashton put it away but only just past the fingertips of Freshfords man of the match James Moody.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 2 - 1 Steeple Aston
Cup final 14/04/09 against the deverills
The Knockout Cup Final will be played at Westbury Town Football Club on Tuesday 14th April 2009 at 7.30pm where Freshford United will take on The Deverills. Please come along and support the lads and hopefully we can produce a stunning display of football against one of the stronger sides in the league.
Steeple aston stomped in cup - 21/03/09
On a beautiful spring day Freshford turned up full of enthusiasm ready to book their place in the Knockout Cup Final 2009.
We got off to a flying start and were helped by a strong wind beingon our side in the first half and the oppositions keeper seeming to not be able to deal with it. We took the lead through a delightful free kick from Neil Birleson sailing past the keeper and in to the top corner although it was supposed to be a cross. Then Phil Little netted again before the half with Steeple Ashton not looking dangerous at all.
With the wind against us in the second half Freshford were determined to not falter or throw it away. Mark Birleson got the first of the second half followed up by Neil Birleson finding the keepers weak spot again and scoring direct from a corner. It was all wrapped up by Tom Armstrong notching with fifteen minutes left.
Freshford march on to the final of the Knockout Cup with the oppostion being either The Deverills or Frome Town Sports.
Final Score : Steeple Ashton 0 - 5 Freshford Utd
Loose to leaders - 14/03/09
A very tired looking team took on the league leaders at Browns field but only having 10 men until 2 minutes before the game did not help the mental thought process. We defended well against a strengthened Seend side who had a point to proove after being knocked out of the cup by Freshford a couple of weekes before.
Eventually in the second half Seend broke the deadlock with Freshford still not looking like putting away any of the chances. The final result leaving Freshford very glum having conceeded three goals with no reply.
Final Score: Freshford Utd 0 - 3 Seend Utd
